Blog 9 - Great Ocean Road
The Great Ocean Road is one of the coolest and most well-known parts of Australia and I actually had the opportunity to go on it twice. The first time was when I was with my family before our program began and the second time was without our group. Both times, it was an extremely long day with an early wake up and both times it was definitely worth it. When I went with my family we had a tour guide who had done the great ocean road many times before and he knew all the correct routes to take in order to maximize our time at the sights and minimize our time in traffic. When I went with my family, we saw the twelve apostles first and when we went as a program we saw them last. Although it's only a view of the ocean and some cool rocks, it is one of the nicest oceans in the world with some of the most unique rock structures I have ever seen. There are many stops along the way where we got out to walk around, take pictures, and simply just enjoy the views. When we went as a program, we stopped at a town along the coast to eat lunch, thinking it would be a quiet and peaceful break. 5000 bikers later said that peacefulness no longer existed due to the loud noises their bikes make and the dominance that they demand. Regardless, it was a cool sight to see and was a great midway break in our day. We continued on and took about four more stops after lunch before we had to head back to the city. It was a nice long car ride home but it was nice getting to debrief the trip and talk about our favorite things. We played a game with our lovely tour guide, Ange, and shared some jokes on the ride home. Despite spending most of the day on the bus, it was a fantastic day and I am really happy I got to have two different experiences doing this so I could see the road from a different perspective.
